What is the difference between a Styku software subscription and an installment payment?
Some Styku customers have two or more separate recurring charges: one for the software plan and one for the scanner hardware (a lease, installment or repayment plan), and sometimes a Styku Care warranty subscription. These are independent products that bill and behave differently. Customers sometimes confuse them, especially when one starts charging before the other, when they assume canceling one cancels both, or when two charges happen to be the same amount.
Software subscription
Section titled “Software subscription”The software subscription is the monthly license fee that gives you access to Styku Studio and the scanning platform.
- Current plans: Access ($199/mo), Elite ($499/mo list price for new customers; existing customers moving from a legacy plan see $399/mo with a $100/mo legacy customer discount, so they pay $299/mo), optionally with specialty modules added to Access ($100/mo each, $50/mo for legacy customers)
- Legacy plan names you may still see on an invoice: Growth Plan, Pro Plan, Enterprise Plan. These are being moved to Access or Elite; see Styku plan migration: what is changing, when it takes effect, and your options.
- What it covers: Styku Studio access, scanning license, cloud sync, support, and the modules included in your plan
- What happens if it lapses: Your scanning license is deactivated. You cannot perform scans until the subscription is reinstated.
- How to cancel: Submit a ticket through the Styku Business Portal. The cancellation takes effect on the date confirmed in writing by support.
Hardware lease, installment or repayment plan
Section titled “Hardware lease, installment or repayment plan”A hardware plan is a separate recurring payment for the scanner equipment itself.
- Plan names you may see: Hardware Leasing Program, X2 Body Scanner Installment Plan, X2L Installment Plan, Styku Repayment Plan
- What it covers: The cost or lease of the physical scanner (turntable, sensor tower, laptop, mat, accessories). Current new-customer options are a 60-month 0% APR financing plan from $159/mo, or a hardware lease at $200/mo with $0 upfront; older agreements may differ.
- Relationship to software: A hardware plan does not grant Studio access. You can have an active hardware plan and no software subscription, or vice versa. They are independent.
- What happens when it ends: With financing or installments, ownership of the hardware transfers to you once all payments are made. With a lease, the scanner is yours to use while you subscribe. The software subscription continues separately until canceled.
- Not affected by the plan migration. Only software plans are changing. A hardware lease or installment plan keeps its existing price and terms.
Styku Care
Section titled “Styku Care”Styku Care is an extended hardware warranty subscription (priority repairs and replacement, free two-way shipping). It is billed separately from the software plan and is not affected by the plan migration.
Why the amount alone is not enough
Section titled “Why the amount alone is not enough”A $199 hardware lease and a $199 Access plan look identical if you only read the amount on a statement. Always read the plan or product name on the invoice or in the billing portal:
- Access Plan, Elite Plan, Growth Plan, Pro Plan, Enterprise Plan = software subscription
- Hardware Leasing Program, X2 Body Scanner Installment Plan, X2L Installment Plan, Styku Repayment Plan, or any name referencing equipment or a scanner model = hardware plan
- Styku Care = hardware warranty
If two charges total, say, $398, that may be a $199 software plan plus a $199 hardware lease, not a single software plan.
Common sources of confusion
Section titled “Common sources of confusion”“My subscription started charging me but I can’t scan yet.” This usually means the hardware plan has started billing but the software subscription has not yet been activated. Contact support to confirm your software subscription status.
“I cancelled my subscription but I’m still being charged.” Check whether the remaining charge is from the hardware plan, not the software subscription. Canceling the software subscription does not cancel hardware financing. Both must be addressed separately.
“My invoice shows $399 but I thought I was paying $299.” Migrated legacy customers are placed on the Elite plan. The invoice shows Elite at $399/month and then applies a $100/month legacy customer discount, so the amount actually charged is $299/month. Both lines will appear on your invoice; the discount line is what reduces the charge.
“My price is changing with the plan migration, so is my whole bill going up?” No. Only the software plan line moves to Access or Elite. Hardware lease and installment charges are unchanged.
“My subscription starts on [date]” said by a sales rep or onboarding email. This may refer to when your first hardware payment is due, not when your software access begins. Confirm with support which date applies to your Studio activation.
