What is body fat percentage, fat mass, and lean mass in a Styku scan report?

Page one of the Styku scan report summary includes a Wellness Information section that breaks down a client’s body composition into three key metrics: body fat percentage, fat mass, and lean mass. Together, these give a more complete picture of a client’s health than body weight alone.

Body fat percentage is the proportion of total body weight that is made up of fat tissue. It is used to classify a client into a body composition category (see related article on body composition categories).

Fat mass is the total amount of body weight composed of fat tissue. This includes:

  • Subcutaneous fat – fat stored just beneath the skin
  • Visceral fat – fat stored in and around the internal organs

Lean mass is the total amount of body weight composed of non-fat tissue, including:

  • Muscle
  • Bone
  • Water
  • Organs

Lean mass is associated with lower risk of chronic disease and is considered a key indicator of overall health and fitness.

Body composition is considered a more accurate indicator of overall health than body weight alone. Two clients can weigh the same amount but have very different health profiles depending on their ratio of fat mass to lean mass.

  • All body composition tools — including BIA, DEXA, Skinfold Calipers, BodPod, and Hydrostatic Weighing — estimate body fat percentage using developed algorithms. No method provides a direct measurement.
  • The Styku scan report displays these values on page one alongside the client’s basic profile information.

If this resolves your issue, no further action is needed.

If the problem persists, contact support and include: the client’s scan ID, the software version in use, and a screenshot of the Wellness Information section.
